Connecticut Fishing Charters, Connecticut Saltwater Charters And Guides
Connecticut doesn’t have any coastline directly on the Atlantic. It does, however, have 618 miles of tidal shoreline and plenty of Connecticut fishing charters and guides to fish it. The state is flanked by Long Island Sound and Fishers Island Sound, both bodies of saltwater. Also, anglers have easy access to the sea, since Fishers Island is only two miles off the coast of Connecticut.
Long Island Sound has some amazing angling opportunities. It’s home to more than one hundred species of fish. One of the most prized is the striped bass. Stripers usually show up in Connecticut waters in April, and they generally hang around until some time in November. The Connecticut state record striper weighed in at 75 pounds, 6 ounces. If you’re ready to manhandle one of these guys, there are numerous Connecticut fishing charters that can help.
Another popular catch in the sound is fluke. The state record weighed 14 pounds, 4 ounces. That might not sound like a very big fish, but believe me – they use their unique shape to their full advantage, so they put up quite a fight. These flatfish are fun to catch and even better to eat. Fluke are mainly ambush predators. They lie in wait until a tasty-looking baitfish is near enough to be engulfed. Because of this, you have to bring the bait to the fluke. That’s where an experienced Connecticut fishing guide can be a valuable ally.
When the bluefish arrive in the sound each year, the anglers feel like celebrating. These feisty fish are fast swimmers, and they make reel-spinning runs when hooked. They’re also extremely aggressive and will attack a large variety of baits. There’s usually a pretty wide assortment of sizes in the sound, and the state record was a 24 pound-13 ounce fish. |

Connecticut Deep Sea Fishing For Blackfish to Swordfish
 | Another highlight on the calendars of Connecticut fishermen is the first of October, when blackfish season opens. The blackfish, or tautog, is a bottom dweller that feeds mostly on shellfish. They love bottom structures, so you need to know where the structures are to find the fish. Once you locate a “hot spot,” you’ll most likely be able to catch numerous togs in the same location.
If you want to do some deep sea or blue water angling, Connecticut fishing charters can take you out in the Atlantic to fish for billfish, including blue marlin, white marlin, and swordfish. These species are often found around the deep offshore canyons. The state record blue weighed 449 pounds, 6 ounces. The record white weighed 108.5 pounds, and the state record swordfish weighed in at 359 pounds. Other catches from this area include tuna, little tunny, bonito, and sharks.
Many Connecticut fishing charters can be found in Bridgeport, New Haven, Mystic, Stamford, Westerly, and Hartford.
