Variety In Beach Haven Fishing

The boats of the Beach Haven Charter fishing Association have found success lately with three different types of fishing.
The “Miss Beach Haven” with Captain Frank Camarda had a banner day last weekend on an offshore codfish trip. The head boat made the 10-hour trip with great weather and calm seas. They fished in 110 feet of water and only had to move anchor once on the wind shift.
The crew ended the trip with over 60 keeper cod up to 10-pounds plus numerous throwbacks. In addition, there was a nice mix of ling and pollack. Most of the cod were in the 5-7 pound range. High angler was Tommy Hook who managed a dozen keepers. The “Miss Beach Haven” will be making another 10-hour cod trip on May 21 when it sails at 4:40 am. and returns at 3:30 pm. The cost of the trip is $80 and is limited to 32 anglers, usually by reservation.
Captain Carl Sheppard had the Stoopes’ party out last Saturday for fluke on the first day of the season. Fishing in a chilly 50-degree water, the fishing was slow until Captain Carl decided to try power trolling.
This technique worked and by the end of the day they boated 12 fluke, with the largest being 25-inches. The fluke bit on everything from Gulp to live minnows with a slight preference for red lures in 6-feet of water.
Captain Fran Verdi had a striper trip recently and began the day having trouble getting his clam baits to the bass due to the large smooth dogfish that kept inhaling the baits. Once the sharks moved on, they developed a very nice striper bite. They caught a total of six bass and brought three home in the cooler with the largest fish at 17-pounds.
Additional information on the association can be found at www.BHCFA.com or by calling 1-877-LBI-BHCFA (1-877-524-2423).
