Seasons changing-fish biting, Saltwater Fishing Report

I am with Scott Young and his girlfriend BB, fishing out of Haulover Marina In North Miami Beach today. We started out netting pilchards, there were some Mackerels and Jacks chasing bait so we caught a few. BB was inexperienced but scot is a good angler. We fished bridges, sea walls, flats and rock piles in the bay chumming up a little bit of everything. The Jacks were incredibly thick and kept us busy, by the end of the day they caught 50 Jacks, Ladyfish, Cudas, Snapper, Trout and Snook. Scott called @ 12 o'clock because he got hungry.

I figured today could be interesting just because of the date, I am at Flamingo with Dr. Marks, and associates Tibbs and Meredith. It is cool this morning as a front is passing thru and its not moving very fast. We have stiff winds out of the north so I stayed out front and fished Florida Bay and Lake Ingraham. Tibbs and Meredith have not fished before so I went to Snake Bite channel, I could teach them and catch fish as well. It didn't take long and we had caught 20 or so Trout, Jacks and Ladyfish. I ran west hoping the colder weather schooled up the Redfish, It didn't! We caught one here and one there and then saw some mudding on the flat. We only managed one out of the school which Meredith caught on a Shrimp and cork. Tibbs caught a couple as well on Shrimp. Dr. Marks travels and fishes allot and played the gracious host to his colleagues. They ended up the day catching big numbers with lots of species, and really enjoyed it. Thats the name of the game!

I am fishing out of Haulover marina, n. Miami Beach today with Kevin and his wife Gilda which is here in town running a triathlon. I got out early netted bait and picked them up and I ran to Government Cut. It was blowing at least 25 mph out of the N.E. and made it tough to fish. I decided to run back into the bay and it didn't take long we started bending the rods, again the Jacks are extemely thick. We caught 50 Jacks alone some Trout, 1 Pompano, 1 Tripletail and a nice Snook.

I am out of Haulover marina in N. Miami Beach again today with Dave and his Boston buddies Matt and Mike. The bait has been available so I'm netting it and really doing allot of live chumming. The morning started out with Jacks Cuda's, Bluefish, Mackeral and some Trout, its windy and I needed to find protection. I went back into the resisential canals and started chumming, The Jacks kept us busy while looking for Snook, nobody complained and the just kept catching them. We sat and chummed a point for a while and eventually got a few Snook out of the mangroves, but couldn't get them to eat the bait with a hook in it.



I wanted to hit the inlet right at the change of tide, I threw a handful of chummers out and we instantly had a double hook up. Dave's got off and Matt was getting spooled and trying to run out of the inlet. I kept us in gear trying to hold the fish inside the inlet but eventually he made a surge and broke off. Matt asked what it was, I told him a monster Jack Crevalle.



I set up and now Dave's hooked up again! This fish left a giant hole in the water when it ate the bait, Dave also has the lightest rig in the boat. I did the same thing again, I kept the boat in the inside the inlet and tried to not let the Big jack use the current to its advantage. When it turned side ways in the 3 knot current it was tough, Dave did a great job fighting the Jack for 30 minutes, he had a big smile on his face in the picture. We continued to chum but they were gone and they wanted to get going to catch the Dolphins game and get a beer!



The season has changed and fish are on the move, it wont be long before the Tarpon move onto the beach and start eating shrimp after dark. The inlets will start producing Snappers, Groupers, and Snook will be there as well.



Flamingo is loaded with bait so that only means the fish are eating them, there have been more Snook catches reported in Fl. Bay this year than last. This is good hopefully they are recovering from the big freeze.
