Fishing with Joe, Catherine and Loren off the coast of South Florida aboard Hooked Up
October 14th, 2011
Today we had Catherine and Joe from Nashville Tenn. and Loren from Fort Lauderdale out for a few hours of deep sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale aboard the Hooked Up.
We headed out the inlet at Port Everglades when we noticed the birds diving all over the place inside the port. We set out a couple of little clark spoons just to see what all the commotion was about. Within seconds both rods bent over and we were hooked up. As it turned out the Spanish mackerels were everywhere and biting like mad dogs. We spent a good 30 min just doing circles around the port catching these mackerels one after another. What a blast catching them on light tackle.
Once we had had enough of catching Spanish mackerels we went into the ocean and went right to trolling the reef with bonito strips and ballyhoos.
Trolling the reef we ended up with 3 nice kingfish and 2 big skipjacks.

Loren, Catherine and Joe thanks again for fishing with us aboard the Hooked up.

Catching fish while fishing was slow aboard Hooked Up
October 12th, 2011
Today we set out deep-sea fishing aboard the Hooked Up with Jussi, Anton, Jukka, Sara and Jan all from Helsinki, Finland.
We started out trolling the reef with 2 planner boards running about 45 feet down and 3 baits skipping across the surface. We started out trolling our way to the south about 3 miles with not so much as a bite. Ok so than we worked our way off shore and only managed to catch one little black fin tuna.
It was just one of those days where we just could not seem to get anything to bite.
To make matters even worse this was one of the nicest families I’ve meet in a long time. They just kept says that they were just happy being out in the boat and the more they said that the worse I felt.
Ok that was enough of that and I made a corporate decision. I called them all up on the fly bridge with me and told them about these little fish we could catch and then once we got back to the dock I could get this restaurant to cook them up for them.
Once again they were just fine with whatever we wanted to do. So in came the trolling gear and out came the chicken rigs.(Chicken rig has 5 hooks in a row with a lead at the bottom)
I went to one of my bottom spots that I had not fished on for a long time and the second the lead hit the bottom I knew I had made the right choice.
Not only were the snappers biting but they were all pretty big one too.

Happy ending to what started out to be a slow day of fishing.
To my new friends from Finland thanks again for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up. And I hope you guys had a great lunch. See you guys next year.

Big Fish in Short Time aboard Hooked Up
October 8th, 2011
Today we had a short trip due to rainy weather but all the same we made the best of it.
We had Paul, Mitch, Dan, Ryan and Jamie all from Windsor Canada.
We went right to kite fishing with 3 live baits suspended from the kites along with one big shark bait also suspended from the kites. We also set a shark bait down about 150 feet down.
It it took a good 25 min of waiting when all of a sudden a hammer head shark showed up all over one of our shark bait and within seconds the line came tight and we were Hooked Up.
After a good 25 min of a back and forth tug a war we had this 5 foot hammerhead shark to the boat.
Unfortunately due to the rain we never did get any pictures.
Ok enough of the rain and we called it a day and turned this fishing trip into a short trip.
Guys thanks again and sorry about the weather but we will make it up to you on our next fishing trip.

DeAnna catches the fish of a lifetime aboard Hooked Up
October 7th, 2011
Today we had DeAnna from San Diego California, Kenny from Simi Valley California and Ricky and Kathy from Westin Florida.
We went right to kite fishing with 2 live baits suspended from each kite.
Ok so the trap was set and now all we needed was for some big sea monster to come along and take a bite.
So we waited and waited and just as we were going to take in the lines and try something else BAM a big sailfish showed up and within seconds he had the bait in his mouth and was swimming away. Captain Greg locked up the reel as I went ahead with the boat and now we were Hooked Up.
DeAnna jumped in the chair and the fight was on.
It turned out to be a 25 min back and forth tug a war all the time this fish was dancing all over the surface.
DeAnna would gain a little line and the fish would just take it right back. But with a little coaching from Greg DeAnna hung in there and finally got this over 8 foot long monster sailfish to the boat.

(WAY TO GO GIRL)
Truth being told fishing was on the slow side today but if your going to catch one it might as well be a monster.
Thanks again to our anglers today for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.
