I went out with my mate Rolfe from the Lure Shop to do some light tackle spinning for Yellowfin Tuna and Kawa Kawa for a few hours in the afternoon, and then we were going to come into the harbour to try for some King Fish and Sea Pike.
It was extremely hot and the skies were clear, the North East wind was blowing quite hard but the swells were small making for a nice choppy surface.
Rolfe was fishing with a Silver Larus Minnow, whilst I was fishing with a Pink Tackle House TKFR 130 Stick Bait.
It was not long before Rolfe hooked up into a nice Bonnie of around 5Kg on the Larus Minnow which gave a really good fight on the light spinning tackle, and this type of fishing will always remain one of my favourite ways to fish. Rolfe managed another 2 smaller Kawa Kawa with the Larus Minnow before he snapped it off on a cast.
The Kawa Kawa did not want anything off the surface and seemed to prefer a lure running a little deeper down and so my Stick Bait did not raise any interest from them, it did raise interest from a hungry Wahoo who ripped my leader to shreds and swam off with my lure.
After this we went into the Bay where we fished even lighter tackle using our famous Z-Claws which produced 3 King Fish strikes and Rolfe had a Sea Pike on for around a minute which came un-stuck and so we landed no fish in the bay.
