We have entered what I call our Fort Lauderdale fall fishing. Kingfish and Wahoos are on the deeper side of the reef while, a few bonitas and tunas are on the shallower side. On the bottom snappers are still biting well as well as lobsters for the divers. Offshore we have been catching scattered dolphin as well as swordfish.
The Kingfish have taken up there normal fall spawning cycle with one day biting in the shallower side of the reef in 120-150ft. of water and two days later out deep in the 200-300ft depths. The fish have been good size with most in the 15-25lb. range and a good amount of fish coming in the 30-40lb range.
Mixed in the same depths off lauderdale are the wahoos. This year has been average for them with most days getting at least one shot at one. We have had fish from 35-50lbs this year. They have been biting best on the downrigger for us this year, in the 180-230ft depth range.
While fishing the shallower side of the reef a few blackfin tunas remain. These fish are great fighters, taste great and will only be around for a little bit longer until the spring.
Along with the above we have been catching sailfish, bonitas, baracudas, hammerhead sharks and other fish mixed in.
We have still been doing well on the yellowtail snappers as well as the muttons and mangroves when conditions allow. If the current picks up too much then they become harder to catch but otherwise we have been catching 6-12 tails in an hours time.
Offshore ft. lauderdale a few scattered dolphin remain with most of these fish being schoolie dolphin. We have struck out the last two times we looked offshore but that may have just been because it also corresponded with the full moon.
Swordfishing daytime has been good with 2-5 shots coming if you are willing to put in a days work. Shorts all the way up to 500lb slobs have been caught in the last two weeks and this fishing usually continues into the fall if the conditions allow. Nighttime fishing has been slowly getting better as we come into the best time of year for it. It was september/october when we had the best nighttime fishing of the year last year off Fort Lauderdale.
Give us a call becasue you can't catch them sitting at the dock.
