With the sub freezing weather the lake has dropped another 5 degrees to the mid 40's. The backs of the creeks are very cold and some have ice. The stripers continue to hold 35 - 50 ft deep over a 50 - 70 ft bottom from mid way back to the mouths of the creeks. The bait is also 30 - 40 ft deep over a 40 - 70 ft bottom.

Your best bet is to starting checking at the mouths of creeks and work your way mid way back lokking for the bait. If you find a good concentration of bait fish spend your time graphing the area. You can also search with an Umbrella rig or put out some bait and fish the area.

Down rods fished 30 - 50 ft deep with herring, threadfin shad and trout are all working. The bigger fish have been hitting on medium trout but the 8 - 12 lb fish seem to want smaller baits. You may want to get a supply of both trout and herring. I have also had some luck on weighted (1/4 oz) free lines 40 to 50 feet back.

The fish are scattered lake wide but the south end of the lake has been the best producer. Baldridge, Shoal, Four mile and Six mile continue to be the top producers. On behalf of Big Fish On Lake Lanier Fishing Guides & Charters, Capt's Mike and Ken would like to wish all of our fellow fisherman and their families a very Merry Christmas.

Captain's Bio: Capt. Mike fishes the lakes & river of North GA & Eastern and Middle TN. Mike was introduced to striper fishing by his grandfather when he was growing up on the Jersey coast in the 1970's. Work brought him to the ATL area in early 80's and when he found out there were stripers in the area lakes he was hooked all over again. It wasn't long before Mike moved to near Lake Lanier and purchased a boat and started striper fishing. He proceed to do very well in regional striper tournaments and decided to share his passion for striper with others. He and fellow North GA striper club member Capt.
