Kingfish Tuna Sailfish Sharks Dolphin and More off Fort Lauderdale, Saltwater Fishing Report

We are officially into my favorite time of the year to fish off our coast. Lots of kingfish including giants to 50lbs. are all over the reef. Big bruiser blackfins are biting throughout the day. Sailfish tearing up the kites, dolphin swimming up your chumslick, and the ever present bonitas. No matter what there is something to catch this time of year.
Most of the big kingfish have made there way to the north of fort lauderdale but we have caught them up to 40lbs in the last week and this should continue this way through the summer. Most of the fish have been in the 10-25lb. range but we are catching at least one every charter over the 30lb. mark.
The blackfin tunas are responding very well to kite fished goggle eyes as well as live chumming and chunking we are catching between 2-6 every trip out. These fish are generally mixed in with there smaller cousin the bonitas but definitely are not the same animal. You can tell from the initial run that you have hooked a fighter and they fight you all the way to the boat.
Under the bonita school we have been catching a ton of bull sharks. These aren't 50-100lb. babies, these fish have been in the 150-400lb. range and will make you beg for the fight to be over. They are fun to catch on light tackle and can test even the best angler.
While drifting we have still been seeing quite a few sailfish. I think these fish are still heading north because we are catching them more then one at a time. Later in the year we tend to catch more singles as the resident fish take up home but we are still seeing our fair share of doubles and triples.
Dolphin fishing has been really hot. When the east wind has been up we have been catching good numbers of fish on the reef in 100-200ft. of water off Fort Lauderdale. To really catch the fish we have been running offshore to 1000+ft of water and finding a lot of fish under debris and birds. Most fish are in the 5-15lb. range and we did have a couple of 20lbers this week.
On the bottom we haven't really been fishing too hard as the kingfish have been biting off our mono snapper rigs. The fish are there you just have to be dedicated to catch them because the other pelagics on the reef are going to try and beat them to the baits. On the wrecks it seems like the cobias are starting to slow. I heard of a few fish being caught recently but it seems like most are way to our north.
Ft. Lauderdale Swordfishing has been good when the wind hasn't been up or fronts coming through.
Give a call if you want to go fishing, its a great time.
