I am at Flamingo today with Keith his wife Barbara and there 17 year grandson Jake. The are from Tennessee and do a lot of fishing there. We started out like I always do just catching a few fish to break the ice after I spotted a rolling Tarpon We stopped and made a few cast and caught a bunch of 12 inch Ladyfish which went in to the live well for Tarpon bait. We got on our way we headed north for Tarpon, I rigged the Ladyfish and put them out on 20 lb Biscayne rods.
It didn't take to long for the Sharks to show up, we caught a few and moved on. The next few spots gave up a few Redfish each and it was fun but we did loose a few to trees. Barbara caught her first Redfish on her own and was really excited about it. I decided to hit a spot I haven't been to since the big Freeze last year and it really paid off. We got into a few Redfish and that's when I notice some fish pushing up mud's, I told Keith it not Sting Rays. We went back to working the area we were at and then I noticed a free jumping Tarpon behind us.
I was just in mid sentence of telling Keith and Jake they could be Tarpon. We moved back to where I spotted them and they were right in the middle of a school of Ladyfish. I got a Ladyfish out of the well and put it out, as I was free lining the bait the line started to rip off the reel. I handed it to Jake and gave him a few instructions he closed the bail got the hook set and the 100 lb Tarpon went straight up in the air.
Jake held on for a minute or so and then the Tarpon started running at us and came un glued. Jake looked at me with a look of WOW! All he said was awesome! We only had one bait left and a shark ate it. Kith finally said we have had enough.
I am out this morning with my wife, son and his friend. We got out and looked for bait which was tough to find, I should of made a couple phone calls. We ended up with some pinfish which we used later. As I was looking for bait we caught a bunch of nice trout to 22 inches and Bluefish to 5 lbs. I tried to get away from the crowds but it was a beautiful day and everyone was out. We got into some really big Jacks in the intercoastal and my son and his friend had a lot of fun trying to catch them.
