Capt. Rich Knox of Absolute Flats Fishing Charters reports it’s hard to keep your hat on out there, when will this wind quit? With the winds this week mostly out of the north except Wednesday + Thursday made fishing tricky setting up on certain game fish, Scaled sardines were hard to come by you really had to search to find the good 4” to 6” castable baits so you could stay off the fish, at least the water temperatures were rising from the last, long cold front 14* degree drop now back in the 70’s and up till today! Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday were decent days for large trout and nice redfish there are also a lot of flounder inshore close to the main shore lie around oyster bars in the sand adjacent and around them! Offshore early Tuesday morning to the 30’ range the water quality was very silty and scarce of bait fish needless to say we didn’t waste much time there and were on a half day so we made a 180* turn for the flats which were productive the gator trout are making their way inshore with the cooler temperatures. The biggest was 27” and 6 ½ lb., keeper redfish, and the flounder every day, the bite was O.K. but you had to move a lot the fish were only grouped real tight in a couple of spots, still I’m looking for a great Mackerel run and good snook bite in the next 4 to 6 weeks, the front this weekend will not last as long as the last, at least it turned Rina (tropical storm) into a no show!
