We have had a lot of wind and fronts coming through over the past week or two and the fishing has been really good if you have been up for the ride. Sailfishing remains strong with most half days off Fort Lauderdale catching between 3-10 fish. With the wind blowing strong we have been kite fishing and the sailfish have been in pods of good numbers. We have hooked doubles, triples, and even hooking and catching quads at once all on our charters in the last week. It is a great time to catch sailfish.
In between the sailfish bites the dolphin fishing has been really good. Though in has slowed in the last week we are still catching a few every trip. These fish have also been eating off the kite and have been in the 2-30lb. range.
We have seen a few kingfish recently and they have been a good size around 15-20lbs. We haven't been catching a lot of them only because we have been fishing mono leaders for sailfish. They are there if you want them though.
On the topic of toothy fish we did have one wahoo last week and I believe there are good amounts around if you are willing to not have as many shots at sailfish and fish wire leaders.
On the bottom the groupers have set up shop and are good sized. We have caught a handfull of gags this week fishing the wrecks from 80-150ft of water off Ft. Lauderdale. All of these fish also came on goggle eyes. While fishing the wrecks we have hooked occasional cobia, snapper, amberjacks, sailfish and if you fish one for two long the sharks have been a nuisance.
If the weather allows the swordfishing off Fort Lauderdale should be great. The few guys who have sneaked out have all had nice fish both day and night.
On the beach there are still a few mullet and if you are looking for giant kingfish there are a few on the beach to the north of Ft. Lauderdale. Following the last mullet are sharks, snook, tarpon, jacks and others.
