Over the past couple weeks we have had unusually warm weather. Not that we don't have warm weather in Fort Lauderdale but we had several weeks without a cold front to keep the fish cominsg through. Our sailfishing slowed considerably over the past couple of weeks from 5 fish days to maybe seeing 1. Two days ago a front started moving through and we caught 4 sailfish. Yesterday we caught one before the winds became too much and fishing should only get better from now on. We are fishing again tomorrow and the reports from today indicated a good sailfish bite up and down the line.
Kingfish have been on the reef off Ft. Lauderdale. Incedentally they have only been biting good on the downrigger so they have been almost non-existant while kite fishing. Dropping the downrigger has brought a fairly steady bite though from fish from 9-25lbs.
On the deep side of the reef have been small blackfin tunas. These fish though not to big in size can be really fun on light tackle.
Gag Groupers closed on the first of Jan but are still biting really well. We were averaging 2-3 fish in an hour or two fishing for them. These are nice sized fish from 15-30lbs and are really hard to pull out of their homes. Also on the wrecks we have caught cobia, kingfish, mutton snappers and jacks.
Offshore when the weather is nice the Swordfishing has been really good. Lots of fish in the 40-100lb. range have been keeping boats tight.
In the bahamas the wahoo fishing has been on fire with 10-20 fish per day a possibility. If you ever wanted to try your hand at high speed wahoo fishing and relaxing in the bahamas now is the best time to try.
