Fort Lauderdale Fishing on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Just another typical day fishing in Fort Lauderdale. Our prevailing winds out of the east southeast here in Fort Lauderdale at 5-7 mph makes is a comfortable fishing charter – temperature was in the mid 80’s.

Today we had a split party with three total strangers - Nick, Rob and Gary all from the northeast area of the States. By the end of the fishing charter, all three became friends and exchanged phone numbers and pictures of their fish. On a split party we leave it up to the customers as to who will be the first angler and thereafter the anglers will alternate after catching their fish.

King fishing was excellent the day before in one of our 34 artificial wrecks in Fort Lauderdale FL. We started off with our reliable fishing routine of two plainers, one having a pink and blue sea witch with a Bonita strip and the other with a blue and white sea witch with a Bonita strip, with surface baits of two Bonita strips with sea witches on them and two Ballyhoos. I worked the reefs in and out of Fort Lauderdale FL from 70’ out to 140’ of water and hooked up King fish and Bonitas in the 5-8 lbs. class. I aimed for one of my favorite artificial wrecks in Fort Lauderdale that sits in 105’ ft of water, a 97 ft. tug boat that was sunk in 1984. This artificial wreck is a good place for fishing larger King fish. I trolled around the perimeter of the wreck, fishing for larger King fish and catching on the plainer rods King fish in the 10-15 lb. range with a couple of Black Fin Tunas on the surface baits. As a rule of thumb, when there is little or no current, go fishing over wrecks since they are noted for holding baits which attract the larger fish.

After our afternoon charter, it was time to start heading back from our deep sea fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL to the dock at Bahia Mar. This ends another successful and adventurous deep sea fishing charter on the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak.
