 Fishing with the Granite Group
November 5th, 2011
Today we had Mike from Concord New Hampshire, Brad and Bob from Burlington Vermont and Ted and Dale from Conn.
Today was kind of a special day for me because I got to fish with my son Luis and we were looking to kick some butt today.
Luis had rigged a bunch of killer trolling baits and he was really looking forward to tricking some sail fish into biting into some dead baits that Luis said would look as if they were alive while slow trolling them.
BUT no the old bull (me) said we are going to catch them with live baits suspended from the kites.
Truth being told here today it just seemed fishing was good all around us but we were having a hell of a time trying to get one behind the Hooked Up.
While we did manage to catch a nice dolphin fish I just could not seem to get in front of a sailfish.
Ok I gave up and decided to give Luis’s style a shot.
So in came the kites and out went all these teasers Luis had rigged along with some trolling ballyhoo and swimming mullets.
After about 20 min of slow trolling I be dammed here he came all over Luis’s teaser.
Luis just so happened to have a live bait hooked onto a spinner rod and ready to go. Once the live bait was thrown out in front of this sailfish he turned and lit up like a Christmas tree and was all over the bait.
Brad jumped in the chair and the fight was on.
We happen to hook this fish while slow trolling next to a ship and yep that was just where this hot fish was headed.
We came back on this fish just about as hard as the boat would back down with Brad reeling like a mad man the hole time.
Finally we got past the ship and from there Brad just worked his sail closer and closer to the boat. Than Luis with his 12-foot arms reached out and grabbed Brads Sail by the bill and he was in the boat.
Now I know this was a great catch but it seems all Luis wants to do any more is slow troll dead baits for these sails.
I know that 9 out of 10 times the old bull knows better than the young bull but god forbid the young bull is right just one time and I never hear the end of it. (LOL)
Mike and Mike thanks to both of you for allowing us to entertain your guests aboard the Hooked Up and I know it was rougher than hell so next time we will make it up to you guys with some great Florida weather.

Captain's Bio: My name is Taco and I run the best Fort Lauderdale fishing charter in South Florida! Heck, you won't have a better time on any fishing boat from West Palm to Miami. Why, because you get a sport fishing captain who has fished the waters of Fort Lauderdale for over 25 years. I know where to fish and how to fish for sailfish, marlin, tuna, dolphin, barracuda and just about anything that has gills.
You also get a great time fishing with Hooked Up. We're not one of those stuffy South Florida fishing charters where the mate and captain are stuck on themselves and barely talk to you. We want you to party, relax, or whatever you like to do. Our job is to make your time on Hooked Up the most enjoyable you can have in Ft Lauderdale. |
