Fort Lauderdale Fishing on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

With Hurricane Irene passing Fort Lauderdale, FL untouched, 250 miles offshore, left us with blue skies and a southwest wind 5-10 mph, seas with a light to moderate chop.

Mr. Barry Chamberlain from Washington, DC with family – three sons, one daughter and a friend - chartered the Happy Day Today Topshot Fishing for some deep sea sport fishing. The first time Mr. Chamberlain fished with me was in 1985. Since then, Mr. Chamberlain has returned numerous times with the Happy Day Today Topshot Fishing for some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL, and has hooked up many Wahoos, Sharks, Sailfish, Tunas, Barracudas, King Fish, etc. It has been a pleasure to watch his children grow up from 4 years of age to their current adulthood – students at FSU.

From leaving the dock to putting fishing lines in the water, it took a whopping 15-20 minutes; 1.8 miles from shore puts us on the edge of the drop which is 120 ft. deep off of the Fort Lauderdale sea buoy. From there, the bottom falls out and gets deeper very quickly. We started trolling with two plainer rods, one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a pink sea witch with a double hook Bonito strip behind it. Mitch, our mate, started to put the surface baits out which consisted of two Ballyhoos, two Bonito strips and one yellow ¼ ounce jap feather, but the constant catching of Bonitos and King Fish on the two plainers kept him too busy from doing so. The barometer falling due to Hurricane Irene increased the feeding habit of the fish. After two ½ hours of trolling, our fish box was topped off with a variety of 23 fish. Barry said that the college boys wanted to do some Shark fishing, so with that, we put out a the newly caught Bonitos as Shark baits, one on the surface, one mid range and one on the bottom near an artificial wreck that sits in 350 ft. of water off of Fort Lauderdale, FL. We got one bite on our surface bait but did not hook up.

With a good catch of fish on the charter boat Happy Day Today Topshot Fishing, it was time to start heading back from our deep sea fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL to the dock at Bahia Mar. This ends another successful and adventurous deep sea fishing charter on the Happy Day Today/Topshot Fishing with Captain Zsak.
