It’s been a while since I last posted a report, charters have been slow and we have had a fair amount of lousy weather and a computer that died does not help for reporting either
Whilst it has been slow I got a chance to service all my reels, and this was a big job but is now completed.
I also eventually got my new T-Top on since I bumped my old one off; this one now folds down for travelling so should be safe from low hanging tree branches. I also have improved my out riggers which when brought down the tips are in line with the aft of the boat and so a greatly reduced back drop which should improve hook ups, this T-Top also sports an Up-Rigger and the roof can fold open if required and for those rainy days clears can now be added to keep things dry.
A month ago we were still catching Dorado, with our last Dorado for the season being a 12Kg (26.5lbs) Bull. Yellowfin Tuna are around with mainly smaller ones under 5Kg (11lbs) around and out deeper there are several large schools with mostly very small Yellowfin.
Winter bottom fishing is starting to be quite successful and we have landed some prize sized Englishmen. There are also a lot of huge Kawa-Kawa around and we have had several multiple hook ups with fish in the 8-9Kg (17.5-20lb) range.
With backline trips the Mackerel and Mozzies have been wild and some very large ones around.
The harbour has produced us some good Grunter, and on one charter I fished with the guys with my little 6lb set-up and managed to land myself a grunter of around 4Kg, we have also hooked up some bus Mullet, and got several Indian Mirror Fish which give an awesome fight on light tackle. On one trip we got bust up 3 times with some hungry Queen Mackerel (Natal Snoek) but 8lb traces are no match for those teeth.

Captain's Bio: Started fishing in Durban Harbour at age 7 and got hooked for life with over 35yrs experience, 3yrs ago I started doing full time Charters. My boat which is a 32ft Silverton Sport Fisher is moored at Wilson's Wharf in Durban Harbour specialising in singles or groups up to 4 persons.
My specialty in Durban is Game fishing, and in the summer months we target Billfish and Game fish in our sub tropical waters, Autumn and Spring are also mainly spent targeting Game Fish and also Reef fishing which is the main fishing done in our winter. The weather is good all year round in Durban our summers hot and winters mild.
I am very passionate and conservation minded with regards to my fishing, my boat has a good reputation and catch record here in Durban and is well respected with many satisfied clients. |
