Minnesota Fishing Guides
Minnesota isn’t called “Land of 10,000 Lakes” for nothing. Actually, Minnesota has more than 10,000 lakes. There are 11,842 lakes in the state that measure over 10 acres each, including some huge reservoirs, and that number doesn’t even take into account smaller lakes and ponds. Minnesota also borders Lake Superior and is home to several rivers and numerous streams.
Minnesota is “Walleye Country,” but other types of fishing are also very popular, including trout, salmon, bass, crappie, and panfish.
Salmon And Trout Fishing In Minnesota
For salmon fishing in Minnesota, try Lake Superior, the Baptism River, the Poplar River, and Caribou Lake. For trout, fish Lake Superior, the Blackhoof River, Lake of the Woods, Mill Creek, Clearwater River, Devil Track River, or the Pigeon River, along with numerous streams.
Some of the best trout fishing locales are in isolated areas, so you’ll have better luck with a fishing guide who knows the area.

Places To Fish In Minnesota
|
|
 | Lake Superior – Lake Superior is so large that it’s more like an inland sea than a lake. Superior provides excellent fishing opportunities for several species. In fact, several state record fish were landed in its waters: a 33 pound-4 ounce Chinook salmon, a 10 pound-6.5 ounce Coho salmon, a 16 pound-12 ounce brown trout, a gigantic 43 pound-8 ounce lake trout, and a whitefish that weighed almost three pounds. If you want to catch a big fish in Lake Superior, you’ll need to plan on a charter fishing boat. Lake Superior fishing guides know the best places to fish.
Lake Minnetonka – This lake is located in the east-central section of the state and covers 14,000 acres. Minnetonka has an abundance of submerged vegetation, along with docks and other structure that hold bass. This lake provides one of your best opportunities for landing a big bass in Minnesota.
Auburn Lake – This is a 262-acre lake near Victoria, just west of the Twin Cities. Although the lake is small, the state record largemouth, at 8 pounds 15 ounces, was caught here in 2005. This is a great place for bass fishing, as it doesn’t experience a lot of fishing pressure.
Rainy Lake – This 212,000-acre lake is located in the northern part of the state. Most famous for its great walleye fishing, the lake also holds healthy populations of bass, catfish, crappie, and panfish. Bait shops, lodging, and fishing guides are all available.
Lake of the Woods – This lake, also located in northern Minnesota, covers 950,000 acres. The state record burbot, at 19 pounds, 3 ounces was landed here. The lake also provides fishing for trout, walleye, crappie, bass, and catfish. Find a fishing guide to help you navigate this sprawling lake. |
