Fishing In Kentucky Lakes, Kentucky Guides

Kentucky Lake – Kentucky Lake, located on the Kentucky-Tennessee border, is often considered to be among the best bass lakes in the nation. This 160,000-acre lake was formed by damming the Tennessee River and includes numerous coves, boat docks, resorts, shallow flats, flooded vegetation, and submerged stumps. The crappie fishing here is great, too. You’ll need a fishing guide to help with this one!

Lake Cumberland – Sprawling Lake Cumberland is one of the largest man-made lakes east of the Mississippi. It’s over 100 miles long and has the most shoreline of any lake in the world – 1,255 miles, in all. Cumberland is sort of a “one stop fishing” for anglers. In other words, you’ll find good fishing here for a number of species – both warm and cold-water fishes. The lake is most famous for its big stripers, but other bass include largemouths, white, and Kentucky bass. Other fish species in the lake include bream, crappie, trout, walleye, and spoonbill. Cottages, restaurants, marinas, bait, rental boats, and fishing supplies are all available along the shore. Expert fishing guides can help you find your way around the lake to the best fishing spots.

Green River – The upper sections of the Green River near Mammoth Cave Park offers some great bass fishing. The most abundant are the rock bass, but smallmouths and spotted bass are also catchable. The river has a gentle current and grassy spots to pull your canoe over for a break.

Greenbo Lake – This 179–acre lake is located in Greenbo State Park. This is an excellent lake for handicapped fishermen, due to the handicap-accessible fishing pier. There are also docks, a boat tramp, and a marina. Fish species include largemouth bass, rainbow trout, crappie, redear sunfish, bluegill, and channel catfish.

Red River – The middle section of the Red River offers some good fishing for smallmouth bass, rock bass, and spotted bass. This is a beautiful, clear river, and the mid-section is calm enough for shallow wading. Some of the Red’s tributaries support populations of brown and rainbow trout, too.
