Fly Fishing In Utah

Utah has scores of great places to fly fish – rivers, creeks, reservoirs, lakes, and small ponds. Trout and bass are the two favorites with fly anglers, and numerous flyfishing guides in Utah are there to help.

Fly Fishing For Bass In Utah

Both largemouth and smallmouth bass are popular catches in Utah, and these feisty fish are challenging on a fly rod. The state record largemouth weighed 10 pounds, 2 ounces and was caught in Lake Powell. Other sites that provide great bass fishing include Steinaker Reservoir, Pelican Lake, Red Fleet Reservoir, Huntington North Reservoir, Sand Hollow Reservoir, Gunlock Reservoir, Deer Creek Reservoir, and Utah Lake.

Pound for pound, smallies are even scrappier than largemouth bass and are a favorite with fly fishermen everywhere. The Utah record smallmouth weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces and was landed in Lake Borham. Other places to catch smallies include Starvation Reservoir, Newcastle Reservoir, Enterprise Reservoir, Rockport Reservoir, and Deer Creek Reservoir.

Many Utah fly fishing guides specialize in “bass busting.”
