Maryland provides some great saltwater fly fishing, and the favorite fishing target is the striped bass, or “rockfish.” In fact, this is the state fish. The largest striper pulled from the Atlantic weighed 57.2 pounds, and the one caught in the Chesapeake was even bigger – it weighed 67.5 pounds. At times, stripers can be seen feeding on the surface in relatively shallow water. When this happens, it’s easy to toss them a fly. At other times, however, the fish are difficult to find, unless you really know what you’re doing. This is where a Maryland fly fishing charter comes in handy. They know the local waters and the patterns of the fish.

Other species targeted by fly fishermen in the Bay include speckled trout, gray trout, flounder, bluefish, Spanish mackerel, and sharks. Offshore fishing in the Atlantic offers some thrilling fly action with dorado, tuna, and even billfish. Maryland fly fishing charters are available for offshore angling.
