In the colder months, redfish often crawl or tail in the skinny waters from Myrtle Grove to Venice, LA.
These crystal clear waters are home to monster redfish, and black drum. On an average day, expect to CATCH over 15 reds on fly..on a GREAT day that number can grow to 30 or more. My best personal day was 65 reds on fly before 1:00 p.m....now that's alot of fish!! The most effective flies in our area are the Waldnre spoon fly, Terminator crab and Mardi Gras Mamma, all of which are hand tied by Capt. Rich Waldner.
Capt. Rich and I headed out recently to target some reds on fly to the south of Port Sulphur, LA. You may remember the twisted sisters Katrina & Rita played havoc with our parish of Plaquemines in 2005, but we are back and fishing is better than ever!
If you are planing a trip to South Louisiana, please feel free to contact me for the top guides, lodging and information on the area. Offshore fly fishing is available as well for tuna, amberjack, dolphin etc.
Plaquemines Parish is located 30 mins south of New Orleans along Hwy 23 South, which stretches all the way to Venice - recently named by ESPN as one of the BEST places in the world to fish.
Tight lines and screaming drags...
